Birth Plan, whats that?

You read all the books, you go to all the classes but you never know what your gonna get. I had the most lovely birth plan all typed up and ready to give to my doctor. I thought that since I had had a baby before I would know what to expect. Here is what really happened.

March 20th I woke to some small cramps. Thinking it was just gas pain I went back to sleep. 3:30 I awoke to more cramps. After considering labor I got up, used the bathroom, and got something to drink. I decided to wake up David just in case it was labor. We timed the contractions. They were 2-3 minutes apart and only lasting for 10-20 seconds. David suggested I call the hospital. The nurse on duty told me to drink some water and take a warm bath. If the contractions got worse in an hour to come to the hospital. The warm bath felt good and sure enough the contractions increased to a full minute. David got things ready to go to the hospital. After getting out of the tub the contractions were on top of each other. I decided on the way out to the car to use the bathroom. When I sat down my water broke and the babies head came down into the birth canal. The pain I felt was indescribable! I knew I wasn't going anywhere and told David to call 911. He thought I just wanted to call because I was in so much pain and told me to get in the car (how inconsiderate huh?). I told him that I felt the urge to push! I felt down and felt the babies head and knew we weren't going to the hospital we were going to stay right where we were. David took a look, saw a head, and called 911. I naturally gave one good push. I saw the head come right out and then the rest of the body just followed. Luckily David was there to catch her. Immediate pain relief overwhelmed me. Aleecia grabbed towels and David dried her off and set her on my chest. Aleecia was extremely excited to see her little sister. David tied the umbilical cord off with a shoelace and Aleecia grabbed the aspirator and David cleared the airways. After all the excitement the ambulance arrived. The paramedics gave David clamps and a scalpel to cut the cord. Mia looked perfect! I was feeling great so they helped me onto the gurney and off to the hospital we went. I was suppose to go to Jordan Valley Hospital but because of protocol they took me to Pioneer Valley instead. Shortly after arriving the placenta was delivered and everything was checked out on Mia. If I had to do it all over again I would in a heart beat. Mia is absolutely PERFECT and my Husband is a hero!

Wow! Just think of the amazing story you, David, and Aleecia will have to tell for the rest of your life! And the amazing story Mia will have to tell about how she was born! It's so great that you and David have medical training too. I'm sure it wasn't a calm experience, but at least you two were sure about the medical side of it.
